It's like David Bowie's hair all over again! Damn it!

Yesterday I decided that it should be a mother/daughter movie night; and knowing that my Mum adores Julia Child and Meryl Streep, of course it was evident that I chose the new movie "Julie & Julia".

Although it wasn't an earth-shattering moving movie, it definitely got some charms.  Anyone who likes Julia Child to begin with, they will absolutely love her more by the end of the movie.  And Meryl Streep's performance is rather refreshing...(makes me have the acting itch all over again...darn it...).

One thing disturbs me though.  I wasn't sure if I liked the main character Julie Powell from the beginning of the movie.  She seemed self-absorbed, neurotic, and whiny.  It's like she depended on her husband to solve every problem for her.  At the end when she realized she had under-appreciated her husband, I finally accepted her as a lovable, admirable, honest person.  And me being the movie nerd, I had to read up the info of this movie on my forever beloved imdb website and the Wikipedia to learn more about Julie Powell.  I was let down in the most horrible way.  I felt like I was being cheated and lied to throughout this movie.  According to Wikipedia: "Powell's second book, Cleaving: a Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsession, which details an affair she had after the first book's publication and which is unmentioned in the film, has had its publication date postponed until December 2009"  Affair!?!  What happened to all the o o o I love you hubby bullshit?!?  And to openly describe her affair!?!  That makes her the most horrible hypocrite ever!  Though I shouldn't judge her completely before reading her books.  Or perhaps the "affair" is a selling gimmick referring to her obsession with another master cook or something.  I hope it is the latter.  I hope it's not like the whole ordeal where I found out David Bowie's awesome labyrinth hair was only a wig.  Yes the naive me thought David Bowie walked around in daily life with that wicked cool spikey do while he was filming the movie.  But even though that was a wig, David Bowie is still the King of wicked hair!
